Asian Orange Chicken

Asian Orange Chicken Recipe

Delicious chicken recipe with citrus flavor, just like in popular restaurants.

 


Prep.: 40 minutes  Cooking time: 40 minutes  Servings: 4 servings


Ingredients:

For sauce:

  • 1 ½ cups water
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • ⅓ cup rice vinegar
  • 2 ½ tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange zest
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • ½ teaspoon minced fresh ginger root
  • ½ teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper
  • 3 tablespoons starch
  • 2 tablespoons of water

For chicken:

  • 2 chicken breasts, boneless, skinless, chopped
  • 1 cup flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil

Asian Orange Chicken

 

Instructions:

 

Step 1:

Pour 1 ½ cups of water, orange juice, lemon juice, rice vinegar and soy sauce into a saucepan and place on the stove over high heat. Add orange zest, sugar, ginger, garlic, onion and red pepper. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and cool for 10 to 15 minutes.

Step 2:

Place the chicken pieces in a resealable container. When the contents of the pot have cooled, pour 1 cup of the sauce over the chicken. Save the rest of the sauce. Close the container and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Step 3:

In another lidded container, combine flour, salt and pepper. Add the marinated chicken pieces, close the container and shake to coat the chicken completely.

Step 4:

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place chicken in skillet and brown on both sides. Drain the fat onto a plate and place the chicken on paper towels and cover with aluminum foil.

Step 5:

Pour the sauce into a clean skillet. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Mix starch and 2 tablespoons of water; pour into the sauce. Reduce heat to medium, add chicken pieces and simmer, for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
