Ingredients:

  • All-Purpose Flour (sifted), 4 1/2 cups
  • Water (very warm), 1/4 cup
  • Sugar, 1/3 cup
  • Butter, 1/4 cup
  • Salt, 1 teaspoon
  • Scalding hot milk, 1 cup
  • 1 egg (lightly beaten)
  • Active Dry Yeast, 1 Package
  • Butter (melted), 2 tablespoons

Instructions:

Step 1.

Take a large bowl, and add warm water and yeast. Stir until the yeast has dissolved.

Step 2.

Melt 1/4 cup butter or margarine, sugar, and salt in hot milk, and stir until sugar dissolves. Allow mixture to cool slightly to 105-115 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 3.

Mix the milk mixture with the yeast, then add the egg. Stir in 4 cups of flour at a time, adding 1 cup at a time to make a soft dough. The remaining 1/2 cup of flour can be used to sprinkle over the pastry sheet.

Step 4.

Knead the dough lightly for 5 minutes. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl.

Step 5.

Place the dough in a warm place and let it rise for 20-30 minutes. On a lightly floured pastry sheet, rim the dough and knead for 4-5 minutes.

Step 6.

Use as little flour as possible to sprinkle on your hands and pastry sheet, otherwise, the rolls won’t turn out as light as they should be.

Step 7.

Make small 1/2 to 3/4 inch diameter buns from the dough. Carefully place them in a well oiled mold, without touching each other.

Step 8.

Let the rolls rise in a warm place for 30-40 minutes, until they have doubled in size. Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter or margarine.

Step 9.

Bake until they are browned at 375°F for 20 minutes.

Step 10.

Take out of the oven and serve warm with plenty of butter.
